Trigger Point Physiotherapy and Deep Tissue Release Singapore
Physiotherapists define trigger points are hyper-irritable ‘spots’ (clinically, they are more like adhesions) within a muscle.
They are often very tender to the touch, and causes moderate to severe localized pain, and this pain can even radiate or travel, causing a referred pain syndrome when it is exacerbated or stimulated. They form due to a combination of factors – poor posture sustained over time, sedentary lifestyle, stressful work, or bad postural habits. Often people who are medium to high level athletes will often get these as from a medium to high level of intensity of their lifestyle and workout. It’s also very common in individuals who work in multiple monitors (display devices), as multiple devices would require the individual to keep tensing one’s neck and head movement.
Interventions and Treatment:
Treatment includes managing the active and activated the tight knots, by locating the appropriate tender points in the muscles, applying direct mechanical and oscillating and sustained pressure until the tension or discomfort point subsides. This causes immediate pain and discomfort relief, improving muscle length, function and mobility – almost immediately.
For a more comprehensive management, a thorough assessment to what causes the condition to occur in the first place will be done, and once we have identified the main core problem, we will provide more treatments in the form of exercise therapy, stress management and/or postural correction therapy. Sometimes, we will also provide the use of cold therapy to decrease muscle spasms.
Regular deep tissue release therapy will also help to manage and prevent this condition from coming back. See some of the advantages of sports massage here – when done regularly, your muscles and fascia will be in tip top condition for best and consistent performance.
