Physiotherapy – Manual Therapy Singapore
We employ manual therapy and manipulation therapies for the treatment of health conditions and problems using a physical, hands-on intervention. Here in our physiotherapy clinics of Urbanrehab, we utilize and offer a range of manual techniques and solutions for you, depending on your medical conditions.
The benefits of this approach are:
quick musculoskeletal pain relief; shortening the recovery time for injuries; increasing the active and passive range of motion (ROM) of joints; decreases soft tissue inflammation; induces relaxed states of muscles; assists contractile and non-contractile tissue repair, extensibility, and/or stability; facilitating movement; and improving overall mobility and function.
Some of the offered manual physiotherapy techniques include:
- mobilization of joints
- joint manipulation
- mobilization of neural tissue
- visceral mobilization
Using a manual and manipulative techniques are very useful in the management of musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions, where stiffness sets in into muscles, joints and tendons. Often, a quick respond and result will follow when applied appropriately.
Some cases will benefit from sports massage and deep tissue release sessions, to decrease muscle spasms that comes from pain, prolonged contraction.
An example where I personally will apply the above manual techniques is the case of a person with a fractured thumb of first and second bone. After two weeks of healing following a fracture, the patient often presents with stiffness to the metacarpal joint (MCPJ) and interphalangeal joint (IPJ). What I will do then, if there are no contraindications, I will heat the joints with either a combination of paraffin wax bath and intermittent hotpack, followed by scar mobilization, then followed by joint mobilization (combination of passive and active range of motion exercises) to stretch out joints.
