Auricular therapy is a therapy technique that is founded and rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, but it was recently re-discovered and expanded by Paul Nogier in France during 1950s.
The approach sees the ear as a microsystem, representing the entire human body, which is similar to the principles of foot reflexology. This technique can be used to treat different parts of the human body by stimulating and treating the corresponding points in the ear.
Some of the more commonly treated conditions using auricular therapy includes the management of addictions, mood disorders, obesity / excessive weight, pain as well as other condition.
This approach is good in a sense that it utilizes a whole and holistic approach to health and medicine, allowing it to treat a person as an entire whole, and not just the condition or injury. The acupuncture and acupressure points found on the ear helps to regulate the body’s internal organs, structures as well as their functions.
Auricular therapy is very well known and has a long history of use in China – in fact, it was also mentioned as the most famous of ancient Chinese medical books as “The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine”.
In modern science and medicine, it has been shown to stimulate the release of endorphins, our body’s own feel-good chemicals, which is good for stress management and relaxation.
How is auricular therapy used in a treatment?
It is usually incorporated and included into a regular acupuncture treatment session. On top of using the acupuncture points on your body, your Chinese Physician/acupuncturist may also choose a few ear acupressure and acupuncture points that will help your particular condition.
Ear seeds and ear tacks in auricular therapy singapore
In our clinic, we also do ear seeding and ear tacking – it’s basically ear acupuncture for an extended period of time. What we do is to take small seeds from the Vaccaria plant, place in the ear on particular acupressure points with a small piece of adhesive tape.
The good thing about ear seeding and ear tacking is that it may be left in the ear for a few days or longer, depending on the Chinese Physician advice.
What this means is that you can enjoy the benefits of auricular therapy for a longer period of time =)
